About Sa Lu Se

Sa Lu Se has been helping families find their ultimate companion for over 30 years. Today, Sa Lu Se is completely owned and operated by three generations of the Gibson Family. The first floor of our family home in Williamson, PA is entirely dedicated to the happiness and well being of our purebred Shih Tzus. Every Shih Tzu under our roof is considered to be a treasured member of the family.
Sandi Gibson started Sa Lu Se with the dream of being a successful Shih Tzu breeder. The first pair of Shih Tzus Sandi had were Romeo and Juliet. Although these dogs were wonderful companions, they were not a high quality representation of the breed which Sandi found out rapidly when she tried to show these dogs. Sandi was intent on learning about dog showing and aggressively tried to find better breeding to start the kennel. Sandi encountered many closed doors and disappointments until she met Anna Cowie. Anna was a breeder of the Nanjo line, who was friendly and receptive to helping new lovers of the Shih Tzu breed. Through Anna’s kindness and tutelage, Sandi acquired Mischievous, who’s first litter produced a champion. Sandi utilized the Nanjo line to build the excellent dogs that have brought joy to hundreds of families over the past 25 years. Many of these satisfied owners have found that Sa Lu Se’s breeding of the ultimate companion also yields a champion of the standard. In tribute to the memory and contribution that Anna Cowie made to Sa Lu Se, we have taken the same approach to excellence to customer support and satisfaction.
Whether you have a question about your pet’s habits, or the proper way to prepare and groom a dog for a show, we will provide the necessary assistance to achieve your goals. Once a customer of Sa Lu Se, we intend for you to be a customer for life. This is best illustrated by the fact that the majority of our sales are from repeat customers or references from veterinarians. In the year 2001, Derek Gibson, Sandi’s son, assumed co-ownership of Sa Lu Se Kennels.
As all breeders, we are inspected periodically and meet the regulations.

Our Shih Tzus
The Shih Tzu breed standard states that the ideal weight of a Shih Tzu be in the range of 9-16 lbs. full grown. Our Shih Tzus primarily mature to be between 7-13 lbs. In our experience, this is an ideal range and we stand by our breeding. All of our Shih Tzu puppies and adults are kept current with shots, worming, and grooming.
Shih Tzus' color and markings are limitless and considered equally. There is no such thing as a solid white Shih Tzu. At Sa Lu Se, we are proud to offer vibrant solid and parti reds in addition to the traditional gold and blacks.
While every Shih Tzu is flawless in love and devotion, there will be rare abnormalities from the standard. Some breeders advertise as offering "Imperial Shih Tzus". These are very small Shih Tzus that are usually the runts of the litter, that develop slower than their litter mates.
Shih Tzu Pre-School
Once our puppies begin weening from their mother, they join the family upstairs during the day to begin socialization and potty training. At 2-3 weeks of age, we give all our puppies a temporary name to help develop their individuality. Your puppy will easily adjust to the permanent name you choose. Puppies develop a distinct personality by approximately six weeks of age. We may recommend a particular puppy for you based on our observations and your specifications.
Adults for Adoption
Saluse is a growing family of humans and Shih Tzus. As we get older, so do our senior companions. If raising a puppy doesn't suit your personal or family needs, adopting an older Shih Tzu may be the ideal solution.
